The Fault In Our Stars review

Hi everyone!

I know, it's maybe a little bit late to write my review of The Fault in our Stars, but yesterday I saw the movie again and I still think it is such a good movie. If you didn't knew it, it is written by John Green.

If you don't know the story:

This film/book is a love story about Hazel and Gus, who met each other at a Cancer Kid Support Group. Hazel has actually cancer and a tumor-shrinking medical miracle keep her alive a few more years, but nobody knows for how long. And Gus lost his leg a few years ago through a tumor in it. Slowly but surely there grows a special love between these two.

The special thing about his book is that it definitely not just another book about cancer. If they hadn't met each other, they would never know each other, but it is such a special and beautiful love story between these two young people.

I really loved this book and film, it is just so beautiful! The story is so good, it is written so beautifully and the characters are so cute. I really loved the film, they make such a beautiful movie of it, and it gives you a really good impression about how the book is. But like always, I think the book is still a little bit better than the movie. If I had to choose my favorite book and filmed book, I would go for The Fault in our Stars, the film and book are both so good (not that the book is much better than the movie, which you have with a lot of filmed books).

I would definitely recommend it if you haven't seen it and to read the book too.
What do you think of this movie/film?

Cactus pincushion: crochet pattern

Hi everyone!

Today I'm going to show this cactus pincushion I crocheted a while ago. I think it is really helpful while your sewing. It is inspired on this pattern I found on the internet, but I changed the cactus a little bit.

This is what you need: a crochet needle of 2.5 mm, cotton wool in green, brown and blue (or you can use a different color for the cactus pot) and 2 safety eyes of 6mm.

Start with making the cactus pot:

Round 1: start with blue, magic loop, 6 sc
Round 2: 2 sc in each sc, 12 sc
Round 3: 2 sc in each second sc, 18 sc
Round 4: 2 sc in each third sc, 24 sc
Round 5: 24 sc
Round 6: 24 sc
Round 7: 24 sc
Round 8: 2 sc in each fourth sc, 30 sc
Round 9: 30 sc
Round 10: 30 sc
Round 11: 30 sc
Round 12: for the border of the pot you have to crochet the last round half double crochets, 30 hdc

And than you have to make the cactus, of course:

Round 1: start with green, magic loop, 6 sc
Round 2: 2 sc in each sc, 12 sc
Round 3: 2 sc in each second sc, 18 sc
Round 4: 18 sc
Round 5: 18 sc
Round 6: 2 sc in each third sc, 24 sc
Round 7: 24 sc
Round 8: 24 sc
Round 9: 24 sc
Round 10: 24 sc
Round 11: 24 sc
Round 12: decrease by crocheting each third en fourth sc together, 18 sc
Round 13: 18 sc
Round 14: 18 sc
Round 15: 18 sc
Round 16: change color in brown, 2 sc in each third sc, 24 sc
Round 17: 2 sc in each fourth sc, 30 sc

Sew the cactus and pot together and fill with some stuffing, and you can put a smaal piece of carton in the pot that it can stands up better.

I hope you liked it! And what do you use as pincushion?

Earrings DIY

Hi everyone!

Today I'm going to show you how I made this earrings I've made a while ago. I really love them, but you have to see that they are not too big and too heavy to wear all day.

You only need 2 earring hooks (I hope that that is how you call it, I don't know the exactly name of it, haha), small pearls in 3 different colors and thread to lace everything together.

You just has to start with fasting the thread to the earring hook. And than it is made in different rounds, starting with the outer round. Do the pearls on the thread as much as you want, this is going to be the size of the other round. Go back with the thread through the first pearl and the hole of the earring hook, go back and start with doing the pearls on the thread for the second outer round. Repeat all the steps again, until you have as many rounds as you want.

Let me know what you think!

OOTD: Winter outfit

Hi everyone!

Today, it has snowed for the first time in 2015 here in Belgium! But, of course, the snow was almost gone in the morning. And I thought that today was a perfect day to do a Winter Outfit Of The Day.

I wanted to wear a comfy and casual outfit, because today was that kind of day that I did almost nothing: working a little bit for school, going to Antwerp to see a few shops and ...

This is what I wore today:

Flower blouse (Pimkie)
Black pants (Forever 21)
Burgundy Cardigan (Vero Moda)
Scarf (Only)

Let me know what you think!

Guitar crochet pattern

Hi everyone!

So a while ago, I came up with the idea to make a little key ring guitar. Because every year, with New Year, we have to read a New Year's letter to our godfather and grandfather, and because my godfather loves music and everything that has to do with it I've made a key ring of a guitar. It is a pattern I made myself. And you can see on the drawing below where you have to increase and decrease.

This is what you need: a crochet needle of 3mm and some cotton wool in the colors red, black, brown and white.

Let's start!

Round 1: start with red, 14 sc
Round 2: 22 sc
Round 3: 26 sc
Round 4: 30 sc
Round 5: 34 sc
Round 6: 38 sc
Round 7: 34 sc
Round 8: 24 sc
Round 9: 18 sc
Round 10: 22 sc
Round 11: 28 sc
Round 12: 32 sc
Round 13: 32 sc
Round 14: 26 sc
Round 15: 18 sc
Round 16: change color in black, 9 sc
Round 17: 9 sc
Round 18: 9 sc
Round 19: 9 sc
Round 20: 9 sc
Round 21: 9 sc
Round 22: 9 sc
Round 23: 9 sc
Round 24: 9 sc
Round 25: change color in brown, 13 sc
Round 26: 13 sc
Round 27: 9 sc
Round 28: 5 sc

Sew the strings on the guitar and make a little black round for the hole in the middle.

Here is the pattern until round 16 as a drawing:

Me playing the guitar haha!
I hope you liked it!

Nail polish HEMA

Hi everyone!

Today, I finally tried this nail polish that I got from my little brother with Christmas. Most of the time, I'm not a big fan of nail polish from Hema, but this time I really loved it!

The color is just so beautiful, it is kind of burgundy/red/purple (I don't know which color) with little sparkles in it. And you only have to apply 1 layer! It is long lasting nail polish, so it is special nail polish that stays longer on you nails. When I got it, I was already planning an outfit with it (haha, I hope I'm not the only one who does this :)), I think it is perfect to wear for a party.

I'm definitely going to buy more nail polish from Hema. I know this was a short blogpost, but I hope you liked this post! And where do you buy your nail polish?

Shopping at IKEA

Hi everyone!

Yesterday I went to Ikea and of course, you buy something you actually don't need (haha!) It was such a long time ago I went there!

But I finally had a reason to go there because I wanted this laptop support. I really like it, now I can just sit in the couch on my laptop :). And the colors are so pretty and colorful.

But this was not the only reason I went there. It was actually because I wanted this wall shelf. My desk is a little bit too small to work on it, and to put on my laptop and printer. So I bought it to hang next to my desk on the same height of my desk, that I can put my printer and laptop on it.

And these are the things I actually didn't need but also bought:

I bought some new clothes hangers, before I only had a lot of different hangers that were crooked. So this is much more tidy.

And to end I bought some new fabric. I actually didn't knew they sold it there, but when I passed, I immediately saw some great fabrics with a nice print. I can never choose which fabric I'm going to buy (I hope I'm not the only one haha!), but I finally chose to buy the striped and red fabric, because I was looking for a long time to striped fabric to make a bag, and I finally found it. And I'm going to use the red fabric for the inside of the bag, because it is a little bit thinner. I was so happy with this fabric, and I'm definitely going to buy more fabric in Ikea, it's such a good quality for such a good price. So I have another reason to go more to Ikea :).

What have you already bought in Ikea?
xoxo

M&M Muffins recipe

Hi everyone!

Today I wanted to bake something, and I founded this mix to make American Muffins in the kitchen. It was just so easy to make and to make it a little bit more delicious, I just put some M&M's into the dough. So with the mix I used, I only needed to add oil and water, but you has to look on your mix, what you has to add.

This is what you need:

- 500g mix for American Muffins
- 200g sunflower oil
- 200ml water
- and, of course, M&M's

And this is how I made it:

Put the mix, sunflower oil and the water in a large bowl. And mix well!

Add the M&M's and mix carefully with a spoon.

Put the dough in small muffin cups.

Put it 25 minutes in a preheated oven at 180°.

I hope you like it!

Divergent Review

Hi everyone!

I finally finished this book Divergent by Veronica Roth. And like I've promised in my Looking back at 2014, I'm going to write my review. I actually just realized I've never post something about books on my blog, so this will be the first one. It's the first book of a trilogy, and the first book is already filmed. The second book Insurgent will be in the cinema in March. I really can't wait to see it!

The story is set in dystopian Chicago. Society is divided into five factions: Amity (they are always happy, all about kindness and harmony), Candor (they value honesty and order, they tell the truth), Erudite (the ones who value knowledge and logic), Dauntless (they are brave, fearless and free), and Abnegation (they are selfless, always helping the others). Beatrice belongs to the last faction. On Choosing Day, all the sixteen-year olds has to choose which faction they would like to be, staying with their family or transferring to another faction. Tris transferred to another faction. She doesn't know anymore who her real friends are and she's hiding also a secret, a secret that could mean death if someone hears about it. In the meantime, Erudite is organizing something big, something that could change their entire life.

I'm not going to tell you more about it, because otherwise you will know the end of the story :)

I really enjoyed this book! It is definitely my favorite trilogy. Just everything is good about it and it is much different than other books. It is often compared with The Hunger Games, but there are a lot of differences. There is not a love triangle like in Twilight and The Hunger Games, and I think the story is just so much better than The Hunger Games, there happens so much in just one book, and in The Hunger Games there is only the beginning and the part in the Arena.

Like I already said, I have seen the film too. As most of the time, I think the book is better than the film, there are often pieces in the book they left out in the movie, what I hate a little bit about filmed books.

I really want to start reading the second book Insurgent, but I first has to read a book for school (I think I'm going to read this book again for school, haha)

I hope you liked this kind of post and let me know what you think!

Mittens crochet pattern

Hi everyone!

It's winter here in Belgium! And my hands are always very cold, so I crochet my own mittens. It's a pattern I made by myself, because I couldn't find one on internet. I made the mittens on the size of my hands, so maybe you has to change it a little bit if you have larger or smaller hands.

You only need two balls of wool and a crochet needle of 9mm.

This are the abbreviations I used:
hdc = half double crochet

This is the pattern:

First you has to make the thumb:
Round 1: 6 hdc
Round 2: 6 hdc
Round 3: 6 hdc
Round 4: 6 hdc
Round 5: 6 hdc
Round 6: 6 hdc

And then you have to make the rest of your fingers:

Round 1: 6 hdc
Round 2: 12 hdc, 2 hdc in each hdc
Round 3: 18 hdc, 2 hdc in each second hdc
Round 4: 18 hdc
Round 5: 18 hdc
Round 6: 18 hdc
Round 7: 18 hdc
Round 8: 18 hdc
Round 9: 18 hdc
Round 10: 18 hdc
Round 11: 18 hdc
Round 12: hook the thumb to the fingers, 24 hdc
Round 13: 24 hdc
Round 14: 24 hdc
Round 15: 20 hdc
Round 16: 20 hdc

And finally you have to make the board of the mitten, this is hooked in rows and afterwards sewed to the mittens.

Row 1: 6 hdc
Row 2: 6 hdc
Row 3: 6 hdc
...
Row 18: 6 hdc

Let me know what you think!

Waffles recipe

Hi everyone,

With New Year I made this delicious waffles. I searched so long for a delicious recipe of soft vanilla waffles which you can keep track for a couple of days. (But most of the time my family ate all the waffles in just two days haha!)

It's a really the easiest recipe I could find and that doesn't take too much time, it takes me a half hour to make the dough and one hour and a half to bake all the waffles with my slow waffle iron.

Here is what you need:

  • 500g self raisin flour
  • 325g sugar
  • 325g butter
  • 5 sachets vanilla sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 5 eggs
And this is how you make it:

Mix the butter together with the sugar and vanilla sugar.
Add the eggs, self raisin flour and the water. Mix well!

And bake the dough in a waffle iron.

I hope you like it!

Flow magazine and book for paper lovers 2

Hi everyone!

A few days ago I ordered this book from Flow called Book for Paper Lovers 2. Flow is actually a magazine and I got the magazine for Christmas. I really love it, it looks all so nice and cute with all the nice patterns and there are always a lot of beautiful pictures in.

In the magazine was this time a 365 day calendar. Everyday there is a beautiful parable or quote on it. All you gotta do is tear out the papers and hang it on a rope. Now I can read everyday a beautiful quote :).

In the magazine there are also a lot of pictures, stories of people, some recepies and more cool stuff.

Then the Flow Book for Paper Lovers 2, in this book are more than 300 pages of paper goodies: thank-you cards, stickers, shiny craft paper, DIY envelopes, inspirational papers, gift tags, coloring pages, and so much more.

I really love this book! Last year I bought it too and it doesn't become boring. You can just use it for so much paper DIY's or give it to a friend.

Here are a few of my favorite pages.
